Shifts (cf. Articles 1.14, 12.12 and 12.14)

When a resident is required to perform a rotation in emergency, his schedule will be in the form of shifts that have to follow certain rules. First, the resident may not be assigned to more than 18 shifts of eight hours during a 28-day period. Also, the resident may not perform more than seven consecutive shifts or, if the shift is performed at night, five consecutive shifts, following which he must be given a 48-hour rest period. Finally, eight hours’ rest must follow each shift.
